Discover the magic of theatre & culture
Established in 1928, the Jetty Memorial Theatre began as a memorial to soldiers in WW1, a hub for live entertainment, community and social events. From the 1930s to the late 1970s, the theatre was used as a cinema, screening the classics of the Hollywood golden age and cementing itself in regional Australia’s cinema evolution. When the lease to screen films ended, a group of savvy arts-appreciating locals moved to have the theatre heritage listed helping to secure it as a performing arts venue for both locals and touring talent for decades to come.
Over the years the theatre has received several significant restorations and tech upgrades, and The Jetty Memorial Theatre is now an adaptable state-of-the-art contemporary venue capable of accommodating a wide range of community and touring shows. Charm and character have been kept carefully intact, with original features and an intimate 250-seat capacity, it is a highlight of the Coffs community and the wider region’s performing arts landscape. “The Jetty”, as it’s known to locals, is a rare gem, an excellent hybrid of a much-cherished community theatre with the chops to host a wide variety of national and international touring shows.
Inspired by our local community, The Jetty Memorial Theatre produces a vibrant and diverse program, a balance of music, dance, theatre, First-Nations stories, performances for kids and youth, cabaret, circus, comedy, award-winning film and much more. The theatre is dedicated to making the theatre accessible to all needs, with wheelchair spaces, a hearing aid induction loop and free tickets for companion card holders for their companions. Please contact the theatre to discuss any special needs ahead of time so we can ensure your comfort and enjoyment.
The ongoing success of The Jetty Memorial Theatre is in no small part due to its volunteers, a dedicated team of ushers and bar staff who generously give their time and are dearly appreciated. Without them, the theatre would not be able to provide such service to our community. Please contact the theatre directly if you are interested in becoming a volunteer.
