Christmas on the Coffs Coast is less about fireplaces and snow and more about sunscreen, salty hair and warm evenings. “Christmas in Coffs Harbour” usually means a swim or surf in the morning, a rest in the afternoon and then heading out to a carols night, Santa visit, movie or market once the sun goes down. Whether you are a local or visiting for the holidays, there are plenty of Coffs Coast Christmas events to help you soak up the season.
Beach by day, festive by night
For many families, Christmas week starts the same way: with towels, beach umbrellas and eskies packed into the car and a beeline made for Park Beach, Sawtell, Woolgoolga or Urunga. A swim or surf before it gets too hot, a game of beach cricket and a simple picnic lunch in the shade feels like peak Coffs Coast Christmas. It is relaxed, outdoorsy and very Australian.
As the sun goes down, the celebrations move from the shoreline to parks, markets and community spaces, where the region’s carols, Santa appearances and family events really come to life.

Carols by the coast, in the park and under the trees
Woolgoolga Mitre 10 Carols By The Sea turns Woolgoolga Beach Reserve into a seaside carols stage. The Woolgoolga community comes together to enjoy live Christmas music from The Toads, food stalls, face painting and a special visit from Santa, who arrives in style on a fire truck. Families spread out on picnic rugs, kids run between the stage and the sand, and the whole evening feels like a classic small coastal town Christmas.

Markets and an easy Christmas feast
No festive season on the Coffs Coast is complete without a wander through a Christmas market. Rather than list them all here, you can explore our dedicated “Guide to Christmas Markets on the Coffs Coast”, which rounds up when and where to find local makers, festive food and unique gifts. It is the ideal starting point if you want your Christmas shopping to come with sea breezes instead of shopping centre crowds.
When it comes to food, you definitely do not have to spend Christmas in the kitchen. Many local venues offer Christmas Day dining, as well as pre-order hampers, grazing boxes, seafood platters and festive desserts. For all the details, check out our “Coffs Coast Fun Feasts” article which rounds up who’s open, who’s doing takeaway and where you can order everything you need for a no-stress Christmas spread. It is the easiest way to swap hours of cooking for more time on the sand, without missing out on a beautiful festive feast.
However you choose to celebrate, Christmas on the Coffs Coast is all about simple pleasures: mornings by the sea, evenings under the stars and plenty of chances to gather with community. From carols and Santa parades to movie nights, kids’ discos and markets, there is always something happening. That is how the Coffs Coast celebrates Christmas.
